Mixed Media Play

Hello there - I've had time for a lovely play at my craft desk this weekend getting painty and messy. After browsing some challenge sites I decided to go with the colours from A Mixed Media Color Challenge which are a reminder that Autumn is on it's way here in the UK. I had a play with my Gelli plate and created some papers using shades of orange, yellow and brown acrylic paint on Kraft paper.

Now I don't know about you but I can spend hours flicking around on YouTube and blog sites and get quite over whelmed with ideas and inspiration and then don't know where to start and end up forgetting half of it ! I've been doing this lately with Gellie plate techniques,- so decided to start a collection of samples for all the techniques I'm learning. So first off to create a cover for it -
I started with one of the prints, cut it to size and added some more layers with the floral stencil and Distress ink. I used a section of another print and added moulding paste through a harlequin stencil, once dry i spritzed with chocolate dylusions ink spray and added to the left hand side. The title panel is another Gelli print, cut with a Tim Holtz die, then run through an embossing folder.
The flowers are die cut or punched from Gelli prints also - some of which were on old book pages, the largest are stamped with a Penny Black paisley stamp.
Some crystals and dots of stickles finished off.
I'm also going to share this over at Crafts-Too Challenge You  who are asking for textured projects and the first twist of the month is 'Choose Your Style' . I'm never really sure what my style is, I don't really do cute but otherwise try my hand at lots of different styles and what I create changes with the wind depending on my mood. But at the moment my favourite is definitely the painty, layered style of Gelli prints so I hope this counts. I'm also sharing at

Thanks for popping over, Esther xx

  5. Love the cover and the whole idea for the book. I also seem to browse the net for tutorials and ideas all the time, which I sometimes find a petty because I'm not at my desk playing.
